Sunday’s Outlook
Strong to severe thunderstorms are once again in the forecast for the weekend in Stark County according to the latest outlook from the Storm Prediction Center.

Weekends in Stark County, Ohio seem to be synonymous with thunderstorms, so why should this weekend be any different?

And the hits just keep on coming! Another weekend in Northeast Ohio brings yet another risk of strong to severe thunderstorms over Stark County.

According to the Storm Prediction Center, most of Ohio will once again be under the threat of strong to severe storms Saturday and Sunday. This time, a low pressures system moving through the Great Lakes region will be the culprit that will fire up the thunder machine.

The primary threat will be damaging high winds, frequent lightning, and locally heavy downpours.

Currently, the weather in Stark County is being controlled by high pressure which is why it’s been so pleasant today. High pressure systems bring clear, cool, and dry weather. Low pressure systems, on the other hand, usually generate precipitation in the form of showers and thunderstorms.

During the spring and early summer months in Northeast Ohio, these two systems tend to be more vigorous. And, when they meet, the resulting thunderstorms that form along the boundary where the two clash can often become intense. This is not an unusual event and our weather will calm down  once we get into mid July.

The high over the region today will slowly drift eastward through the rest of Friday allowing a low to move in over the Great Lakes. Winds will gradually migrate southerly allowing much warmer and more humid conditions to begin moving in over the region later tonight destabilizing the atmosphere.

Depending on how far south the outflow boundary travels, we could see some thundery weather Saturday morning. Most likely, the thunderstorms will hold off until later in the day.

It won’t be a complete wash-out Saturday, but if you plan any outdoor activities, keep an eye to the sky and stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio for possible severe weather. Highs for Saturday will most likely be in the upper 80s.

Sunday, another stronger low will travel over the Great Lakes reinforcing and greatly increasing our chances of strong to severe thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening hours. It will be warmer with temperatures over the region close to 90.

The chance of thunderstorms remains in place over the area through Sunday night and Monday.
