The National Weather Service office in Cleveland has issued a Winter Storm Watch, which is in effect from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning. The watch is in effect for locations near and south of a US 30 line.
Temperatures are forecast to be cold enough for snow during much of this event. However, it may begin as a brief mix of sleet or rain Friday afternoon. By Friday evening all precipitation will change over to snow and could become heavy at times through Saturday morning.
Most locations will see around 5 inches of snowfall by daybreak Saturday. There is the potential for locally higher amounts of around 7 inches - especially near and south of a Mount Gilead to Canton line.
Northeast Ohio counties included in the watch include Richland, Ashland, Wayne, Stark, Marion, Morrow, Holmes, and Knox including the cities of Mansfield, Ashland, Wooster, Canton, Massillon, Marion, Mount Gilead, Millersburg, Mount Vernon, and more.
A Winter Storm Watch means that heavy snowfall is possible in Stark County. Residents within the county should remain alert to rapidly changing weather conditions. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or your local news outlets for the latest updates and possible warning.
