| Digging Out With anywhere from 12 to 18 inches of snow from the winter storm that plauged Stark County the past 12 hours, residents will spend the rest of the day digging out. |
The snowstorm that dumped over a foot of snow in Stark County has moved from the region leaving sunshine and blue skies in its wake.
The storm is over. Sunshine has returned to Stark County. Now, the work of digging out begins.
Neighborhoods all over Stark County sound like a lumber yard with snow blowers and snow shovels hard at work digging out from last night’s winter storm. Reports from around several communities in the county show that 12 inches or more of new snow has fallen during the past 12 hours.
That’s a whole lot of snow to be moving around.
Road crews are out clearing the streets. The major roads in the county are in pretty good shape considering the amount of snow that has fallen. Road crews are now working on clearing the secondary streets around the county. In Lake and Jackson, township crews have been observed plowing streets and spreading salt. The sunshine will also help to melt the snow on treated roadways.
If you venture out this afternoon, keep in mind that not all roadways will be passable - especially the secondary, county, and township roads. Snowplows will be out in force to clear the streets and roads as quickly as possible, so give the guys a break if you happen to see them.
Travel with caution as snow may drift across roadways around the county through the day.
The winter storm warning for Stark County has expired as of noon today. Winter storm warnings continue for Tuscarawas, Carroll, Columbiana, and Coshocton counties until 6:00 P.M. however.
Gusty winds around the region will continue to cause some blowing and drifting snow. But for the most part, we can put this storm to bed.
For the rest of your Saturday, a mix of sun, clouds, and blue skies will hover over the area. As mentioned previously, it will remain windy through the afternoon with gusts around 15 MPH or better at times. Winds should die down in the late afternoon and early evening. Look for a high today of around 25 degrees.
Tonight, temperatures plummet into the single digits with wind chills at around -5 degrees. Lows tonight around 8 degrees.
Sunshine and clouds return for Sunday with highs in the low 20s. Once again, lows Sunday night will dip to around 10 degrees.
Temperatures will remain below normal through mid week. The next system capable of bringing more snow to Northeast Ohio will arrive Tuesday and continue through Wednesday.
