| Roadways will present travel difficulties as the winter storm intensifies and produces heavy snowfall. Slow down and allow extra drive time for your Friday evening commute. |
Temperatures will plummet to the single digits Saturday night with wind chills around -10 degrees.
As the nighttime hours approach in Stark County, snowfall and winds will be on the increase. Total snow expected could reach ten inches in southern Stark communities.
Winds will also become a concern later tonight. The National Weather Service is forecasting northeast winds gusting at 15 to 25 MPH, which will cause blowing and drifting snow across the area.
A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Stark County and counties to our south.
Snow has begun to spread across the area and will increase as the late afternoon and evening progresses. Snowfall will be heavy at times through tonight. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches can be expected with locations near and south of a Mount Gilead to Canton line seeing higher snowfall totals of around a foot.
If you are planning to travel in the area you should be prepared for severe weather. All travel will likely become difficult and roadways that are not treated may eventually become nearly impassable.
Snow will begin to taper off Saturday afternoon and frigid temperatures are expected to follow. Lows Saturday night will be in the single digits with wind chills of around -10 degrees.
We will continue to post regular updates as they become available.
