FREE STORM SPOTTER CLASS

Learn how you can become a Storm Spotter for the National Weather Service by attending a Free Storm Spotter Class conducted by the Cleveland Office of the National Weather Service. The class will be conducted on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at the Stark State College Student Center, 6200 Frank Ave NW, North Canton, OH 44720. The class begins at 6:30 PM and is open to the public. There is no charge for the class and pre-registration is not required - just show up. The class is approximately 2 hours long.

The marvelous sunny weather we've been having in Stark County is coming to an end. Rain showers and possibly a thunderstorm or two are forecast to move into Stark County beginning tonight through Friday. Temperatures will also be on the rise approaching the 60 degree mark going into the weekend.

Warmer temperatures and rain showers are in the forecast for Stark County the next few days as a low pressure system sweeps by near the region. Already clouds have moved in over the area signaling the arrival of moisture-laden air that could bring some rain showers later tonight. Rain, if any, should hold off until after midnight. Only a tenth of an inch or so is expected. Lows tonight will remain well above freezing bottoming out at around 37 degrees.

For Wednesday, skies will continue to remain cloudy with rain chances increasing to around 30 percent. Warmer Gulf air will move into the area through the day allowing temperatures to warm up a few degrees. Highs Wednesday will be in the upper 50s with some areas of the county seeing 60 degrees by late afternoon.

OHIO SNOW EMERGENCY LEVELS
In Ohio, the county sheriff can declare a snow emergency based on 1 of 3 of the following levels:

Level One: Roads are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow, roads are icy and drivers are warned to be cautious.

Level Two: Roads are hazardous, only those who feel it is necessary to drive should do so, and drivers are encouraged to call their employers to verify that they need to report to work.

Level Three: All roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel. No one should be out during these conditions unless it is absolutely necessary. Those traveling on the roadways may subject themselves to arrest.
